El Roi – The God Who Sees
He Sees Those Who Seek Him
Part 4 of 5
Read John 1:29-39
John 1:35-38a “The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following…”
This was a time when Jesus was a little bit of a celebrity. People were hearing about Him and wanting Him to heal them. Some were very curious about what else He might could do for them. But, then there were some that really wanted to know Him. When John’s disciples heard that Jesus was the Lamb of God they knew exactly what that claim meant and their hearts desired to seek Him out and learn more. We know He is the Lamb of God and took away the sins of the world! When was the last time you told someone who Jesus is? Like John, we must deflect the attention from anything we have done and point then to Jesus. He is the one that holds all of the answers to our questions. Help someone find Him.
*Remember in each of these scriptural texts we find that the Lord always presents a question and then gives a command that, when we obey, will bring restoration –
Question – John 1:38 “Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?
What made you want to seek after Jesus? Are you still seeking Him or has there been a distraction in your life that has provoked you to seek after other things? It’s not too late to repent from leaving your first love and return to the fellowship you once had with the Savior. If you are curious or desperate or seek Him with your whole heart, He sees you. Take comfort in knowing the God of the universe sees you, whether you are seeking from a distance or seated right at his feet.
Restorative Command – John 1:38b-39 “And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”
He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.”
These wise disciples of John just wanted to be with Jesus, hang out with Him and see what He was about. They asked where He lived and He invited them to “come and see”. If you are a follower of Christ, a disciple of His, He lives within you! We know where He is staying! If you, or someone you know, is wondering where Jesus is, that invitation is STILL open – “come and see”. Praise God that the very one who sees us, is the one that holds the power of the invitation in His hand.
Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
“Thank you Lord Jesus for inviting us to come and see. Thank you for seeing us when we are following from a distance and only curious about what you can do for us. Thank you for allowing us to dwell with you, not just while we are here on earth, but for eternity. Please give us boldness to point all those we meet to you. Give us a love for people that compels us to introduce them to the Lamb of God. Amen”
